Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House party.

You will find the link to join the party at the bottom of this post.
Don't go there yet because I have an amazing home to share with
you today.  We will be traveling to the Stellenbosch winelands in the
very South of Africa to the home of Colette of  La Brocanteuse.

The first time I saw Colette's home my jaw almost hit the ground!  Gorgeous is
an understatement...take a look and I think you will agree.

Here is a sneak peek at Colette's beach house too.

How beautiful are these homes?  I hope you will visit  La Brocanteuse and tell Colette
you saw her home featured here.

Thank you Colette for sharing your fabulous homes at the Open House party.

Steve and I are off to DC tomorrow for a little getaway.   I'll be back in touch
in a few days.

Enjoy the party!

Grow Your Blog With Pinterest

Like many of you I am addicted to Pinterest.

I bet by now most of you know Pinterest lets you organize and share
all the beautiful things you find on the web, but did you know you can use
it to help build your blog?

I didn't either until I started checking my blog's stats and seeing many
referrals from Pinterest.  I was shocked to see that for last three months I
had more visits to my blog from Pinterest than any other source!

If you are looking for a way to grow your blog I would suggest becoming
active with Pinterest. Add a board to your site including pictures of your own
home, projects, recipes ect.  Have fun with it but don't use it purely as a
tool for self-promotion.  Also follow other boards and leave comments
on pins you like. Make sure and add the Pinterest button on your blog so
others can click over to your boards.

You can get information on joining Pinterest HERE.

I use SiteMeter  to check stats and to see who is visiting of my blog.
It is a free tool that can be added to your sidebar.  I prefer SiteMeter
over Google stats because it gives you a lot more information.

I have no connection with Pinterest or SiteMeter,  nor am I being paid
for recommending them.   I love you guys and just want to pass on
information that works for me.

It would be great if you would  follow me on Pinterest by clicking on the button
in the sidebar.  Let me know you are following and I will happily follow
you back.

Do you have any tips to share for growing your blog?

Hugs,
Sherry

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House party!

I had a wonderful home for you to tour today.  Notice I
said "had".   For two days I worked on the party and
then and I ran into a glitch.  Some of the pictures would
not upload.   Rather than give you just a glimpse at this
fabulous home I have decided to wait and try to correct the
problem.  Hopefully we will be touring the home at next
weeks party.

I couldn't have the party without pictures so I will show you
Part Two of my last post  What A Mess .

Some of you guessed we had sold our home and we were packing for
the move.   Boy,  I wish this was true!  Unfortunately, no contract yet.

Those that guessed we were painting were correct.  Steve and I
decided to have the family room painted a neutral color that matched
the color in the foyer.  Though we liked the coziness of the khaki green,
we wanted to neutralize the room for selling the house.

>Before<

You will see there are less accessories and artwork.
The dark rug was removed and a sisal rug added in its place.

>After<

We put the window treatments left by the previous owner back up.

The room now looks much larger and brighter.  Keep your fingers
crossed for us that this helps with the sale.

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House Party.

I am so happy you are here and I look forward to seeing what you share this week.
You will find the link to join the party at the bottom of this post.

I have a real treat for you today!

We will be traveling to Australia to tour the home of one of the most creative
ladies in blogging.  Kristine @ The Painted Hive admits to being an incurable
"Do It Yourselfer" and she blows me away with her talent and creativity.
I know you will agree when you see her beautiful home.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the tour....

Library card cabinet turned into a side table...genius!

Even the dog color coordinates with the room. Isn't he adorable?

Love the framed map.

Below are just a few of Kristine's amazing projects.

Chalkboard doors in the nursery...soooo cute!

You will have to check out this post to see how this curb find was turned
into a beautiful cabinet.

A lamp made from a music stand...fabulous!

This is just the tip of the iceberg of the many fabulous projects by Kristine.
I hope you enjoyed the tour and will stop by The Painted Hive  to see more.

Kristine,  Thank you for participating in the Open House party and allowing me
to share your beautiful home.

On to the Linky party...

I want each of you to know how very much your friendship and support of my
blog means to me.  Due to health issues I have had to cut back on the time I spend
blogging.  Please forgive me if I am unable to respond to all comments or visit each
party link.  I know you have many parties to choose from and I truly appreciate you
joining the Open House party.

Her fabulous runners are made from vintage European grain sacks.

Aren't these the cutest embroidered tea towels?

A Somewhat Successful Project + Etsy Coupon Code

I hope you are having a nice weekend.

Starting today I am offering 20% off everything in my Etsy shop.
Just click HERE to go to the shop and enter discount code NMH20 at
checkout. The sale goes through 2/18/12.

I have been working on several projects including the somewhat successful one I will show you today.
I saw on Pinterest where you could age metal by spritzing with a combination
of apple cider vinegar and sea salt.  The pics showed a great green patina achieved with this
process over a two day period.

Do you remember the set of  metal hearts I purchased from Wisteria?

I tried the vinegar and sea salt on the small one for two days, spritzing
up to ten times per day.

No Change Whatever!

One week later with continuous spritzing...NO Change.

At this point the smell of the vinegar had permeated the kitchen and was making
us sick. I am pretty stubborn and was not giving up on this project.  I removed
any remaining lacquer and started the process again.

Three weeks and two days later this is what happened.
Looks promising huh?

This is what I got when the salt and vinegar was rinsed off.

I would have liked a little more patina but I am happy with the results.
I won't be aging the others until it warms up and I can do this in the garage.
