Ruffling Some Feathers & A Winner

Thank you so much to everyone that left such kind (and funny) comments on the
Make Your Own chalk paint post .

I do have to say that not everyone was so kind.

Obviously this post ruffled a few feathers.

I received four very NASTY remarks left by "anonymous" posters.

Don't bother looking for them because I deleted them immediately.
Lets just say I was PERSONALLY attacked for sharing with you my inexpensive way to
 get a chalky paint look.

I was called stupid, ignorant, a bit.. and cheap!   I had to laugh at the last one.
The poster obviously is not a reader of this blog or they would have known I consider CHEAP  a compliment.

I am not sure where all this hostility came from.  I know not everyone will like my projects or agree with my post and that is okay with me.  I always encourage constructive criticism but not hurtful remarks.  I was not trying to mess with another person's income nor did I ever say the other chalk paint products were not good products.  My only intentions were to share what worked for me.

Enough Said.

Now on to happy thoughts...

I  want to share a post with you from a new blogger that just tried one of the paint additives and loves the results.  Check out  Kristybelle's for her review.

Also, we have a winner for my recent giveaway of trinkets brought back from our recent vacation.

Thank you to everyone that entered.

Congrats to  Ceekay @ Thinkin Of Home

Take care and have a wonderful weekend.

xo,
Sherry

I have to admit, some of the less charming posts I saw made me laugh at how people can be. I'm very European, and I don't think there's anything specially different about European colours. Pale blue is pale blue everywhere.

Oh, and congrats to the winner of the giveaway!

Good heavens, Sherry! I am in shock that someone would call you those names! You of all people! I am sure you know... but I just want to tell you, You bring such joy, inspiration, warmth, great ideas and love to the blog land!
We just have to feel sorry for the poor soul who has so much ugliness inside of them. I pinned your chalk paint formula and am going to give it a try! Thnks so much for posting it. Bless your SWEET heart.

I am sorry you were hurt for trying to share something with others. How brave is it to name call someone under an anonynmous identity. Keep sharing your good ideas because I know lots of people appreciate them.

Thanks so much for the mention! I couldn't be happier with the final look of my project and can't wait to get some pics up tomorrow.

As for the nasty commenters, I say they're just jealous they didn't think of it first :)

As soon as I read your post on making our own chalk paint, I knew there were going to be some unhappy people out there. Realistically, aren't most of us looking for ways to decorate and beautify our homes on a budget? I am so excited to use this formulation with the Behr paint I had tinted to match a paint that can only be found in my aread in a spray can. There are not going to be enough hours in this weekend!!

I missed the entire "episode" and am going to find it and read it NOW. "Thrifty" is the first word in my blog's title :)

Really??? That is horrible, Sherry! I can't believe people would call you names and scold you over that post.

Congrats to Ceekay!

Hi Sherry, Congrats to the winner! You know, Blogland is a place where people are gracious enough to share thoughts and ideas that work for them. There is room for store-bought chalk paint and home-made chalk paint - right?! Personally, I really appreciate you sharing a way to make chalk paint. I have marked it as a favorite and want to try it for sure! Thanks, Linda

Becca said...

Congrats to the winner! And, so sorry that you received negative comments about the chalk paint. Anyone who takes the time to write something so inappropriate is only jealous of your talents and wants attention.

Hi Sherry,
unbelievable...some people have no class! I thought your creation was absolute genious...keep it up and keep sharing!!
Congrats to your winner!

Miss Char said...

Congrats to Ceekay on her win.

As for the chalk paint thing... obviously people recognize your popularity in the world of blogland and felt threatened. I certainly appreciated the information you provided for those who would like to give this process a try but don't want to invest $$$ to have paint shipped to them.

Dori said...

Ugly comments always amaze me. Why people even bother. Thanks for sharing and you have a wonderful blog!

Countess said...

I live in an area where we cannot get chalk paint and I am not going to pay for the cost of chalk paint and shipping. I am just too cheap! Thank you for the instructions, I am going to give your paint a try.

Rosie Goins said...

Only a coward hides behind "anonymous".

I had pinned another chalk recipe just before yours; your ratio of paint to plaster of paris is better.

I left mine open overnight (a senior moment, not on purpose) and just had to a bit of water and remix. I think it acts just like the more expensive paint.

Andrea said...

I was talking to another blogger yesterday about some mean, hurtful comments. I can't believe what people will put in a comment. Horrible! I'm sure, though, that the positive comments far outweigh the nasty ones =)

Pam said...

Well, poop on the anonymous commenters. I don't believe in only being able to leave sunshiny comments on a blog, but if you want to leave a more blunt comment at least have the sense to stand behind it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that those people make an income or receive free product from mentioning ASCP on their blogs and they are afraid that your less expensive idea will hurt them financially. Or maybe they get more page hits when they do a post on ASCP? Or rank higher in Google searches? Gotta be a reason they would be nasty about it.

mary beth said...

Let not your heart be troubled! Us cheapskates and copyers outnumber the mean people out there and always will! Your blog is a ray of inspiration to us and we love learnin the cheap tricks..keep em coming!

Kelly said...

I don't understand why people leave hurtful comments. It's not like you were condemning the original chalk paint and they were the inventor of it! You were just sharing an alternative to something we all like and there is nothing wrong with that. I always say if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all.

The Polka Dot Closet said...

Congrats to CeeKay, no one is more deserving! The comments, of course they were anonymous, if you are going to say something at least be constructive and stand behind it, we all respect that.....Just don't ring the doorbell and run!

Wow! I'm amazed at people. It is interesting that they were all anonymous... As soon as I read your post I immediately ran out to Home Depot and bought some Plaster of Paris. Thanks so much for the information!

Have a great weekend!

Sherry, I'm sorry you got some negative and nasty comments, I'm thinking these folks might be a little jealous. Why do people feel the need to spew out poison and negativity and not be happy to find out something that will HELP them?!? I printed out your instructions because I'm glad to have this information as I didn't want to pay out the bucks for the "real deal".

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, I'm off for some shopping with my sweet daughter...

I've been experimenting with what I call making "chalky" paint and my first thought was a lot of people making money off sellig chalk paint are going to be less than thrilled if I shared this idea. When I saw you posted on making your own, I thought "you go girl!" and linked a post to yours. People need to understand that creativity rocks.

I am so excited to have stumbled upon your blog so I may try out the make-your-own chalk paint. I have wanted to try name-brand, but it is so expensive.

Sorry about the party poopers.

Decorating Lady's Humble Abode said...

That is crazy to give you a hard time for showing us a another way to have chalk paint with out the expense. I just love it when some one comes in to my house and says how nice it looks but, there is that one person every once in a while somebody tells me "I like how you decorated" until I tell them I garage sale and junk sale that is when I get this shocked look from them to think I would buy used stuff and put it in my house. The look says eeeew. How does it matter how we get the job expensively or not just as long as we enjoy the finish product. Go girl for enlightening us. Oh, and I don't think it will hurt A.S. Chalk Paint sales one bit. Thanks for the update Decor. Lady

Sherry, I found your last post by accident and boy am I glad I did. I rushed right out and picked up some plaster of paris ($3.85 at Michael's with a coupon). I myself have been experimenting trying to find something similar to chalk paint. I can't swallow the HUGE price tag for ASCP. Sorry to hear that you had nasty comments but it figured that they were left anonymously. I have a YouTube channel for makeup and I get left those kind of comments all the time. People like that never have a page or channel of their own. Anyhoo, I'm happy to say that you have a new follower. Thank you for your posts : )

I was so thrilled when you posted about making your own chalk paint. I really appreciated it.

Don't let ugly comments get to you....just let 'em roll off your back. I get so many mean comments on my blog and I just delete them. You can disagree with me all day and I have no problem with you, but when you start attacking me or my readers....you're out. No need to get nasty people...it's JUST PAINT for goodness sake.

When that happens to me I think to myself, "Don't give those sad, pitiful people any power over me," and I just forget it.

You keep being awesome! Lisa~

Ms. S,I just saw where you told another blogger about my blog. I was as pleased as a pig in a slop jar. Thanks so much and it really means a lot to me. As far as the bad comments go, my mother always said you have to take the bad with the good and learn from the bad. They are just trying to stir you up and I would not give them the satisfaction. I have mentioned these same take offs on the chalk paint on several blogs, to me it is not cheap, but down right smart. Why pay a lot when a little will do, gives us more money for the things we want. After all-there is no MINIMALIST here!!!

There are always going to be people out there who have to put down others because of various reasons. It's too bad, especially when they can't even leave a name behind their comment. Just keep your head up high and don't give them the time of day, afterall, all they want is a reaction.
Have a great rest of your day!

I am SO grateful that you posted on how to make your own chalk paint and so are my readers whom I directed to you post.

Not everyone (including myself) is able to purchase the expensive paints and it was a true blessing to be offered an cost-effective alternative.

Thank you for sharing!

So sad that people have to post such negative & hurtful comments. I believe that those are words of jealous people and cowards to post an "annonymous" comment. If you feel so strong about such a negative comment then live up to it or keep quiet. Thank you for posting the instructions for chalk paint for those who would like to give it a try and not have to spend lots on something that they might just be experimenting with. Congrats to Ceekay!!

Well, I am thrilled that I checked in today and was led to your previous post on chalk paint. I was just about to cave and buy a couple quarts to see if they were worth the hype and price. I am SO glad I read your post first. Can't wait to try your suggestions. I think you have made A LOT OF FRIENDS with this post.

Oh those anonymous comments are a hoot aren't they! Love how bold they are without an identity. Sounds like you hit a nerve with someone.
Thanks so much for sharing your experiment with us. I would love to try it out. I have enough sample pots to try that's for sure!
Congrats to the winner :)

Congratulations to Ceekay for winning that beautiful giveaway! Your style of interior decor, your attention to color and detail and your creative skill is a major source of inspiration and motivation for all of us. Oh my, hope this appreciative post makes up for at least one of the nasty ones you received earlier in the week. I have bought my fair share of the ASCP and supplies, probably close to $1000.00. But I have yet to find a perfect blue or yellow and the distance I have to go to get it is crazy inconvenient.. So from me a huge THANK you!

Anita @ Cedar Hill Ranch said...

Sherry, I loved that you shared your recipe for the paint. I did try it with the plaster of paris and it came out lumpy. I will try again, but next time I am going to mix the plaster of paris with some water first and then try adding it to the paint. And next time I will just try adding it to a small amount of paint. I can't believe people were so ugly to you. Usually everyone is so supportive here in blogland. Please know that I appreciate you and your blog.

Elizabeth said...

I am not too suprised that you received some negative comments about your chalk paint recipe. Blogland has been over run this summer with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ads, projects, etc. I have purchased it myself and I love it. But, I have to tell you that $35.00 for a quart is a lot of money for some people to spend on something that they have never used before. IT is a terrible economy, people are trying to save money. I hate when people post negactive comments and do not leave their name. If you have something to say own it! USe your name and say what you feel!

I personally have shared your post link with several people whose blogs I comment on and they have been very excited!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and allowing everyone to have the ability to use this paint! Love visiting here!

Take care, Elizabeth

do you have to use wax when you're finished? I know it gets used with ASCP ...what is the purpose of the wax? To seal? or just for looks?
Is it necessary?

Hi Sherry!
I'm really late on commenting on this post -- but I was researching recipes for chalk paint on the Web, and found your post about it -- fabulous.

I almost laughed at your getting nasty comments ... there's an old saying, when you throw a shoe into a pack of dogs, the one you hit is the one who yelps. Clearly you truly did ruffle some feathers. That's their problem, not yours!

How rude, too. What very bad manners; didn't their mothers teach them that if you can't say something nice .. you don't say anything at all?

I thank you for the recipes! I, too, am proud to wear the "cheap" badge. I like to think of it as Good Stewardship!
All the best -- Cass
